The Last Mediacom Bill

Dear Mediacom,

At first I thought you sucked because you insisted on abrogating internet standards with a “Website Redirect Service” that you wouldn’t let me shut off. Since you fixed that problem, you’ve decided to place data caps on my previously “unlimited” service. Of course, when I exceed your arbitrarily imposed caps, you charge me more fines on top of on an already obscenely large bill.

What’s obscenely large?

Iowa City Press-Citizen Won’t Stop Delivering “Free” Newspaper

Despite agreeing to no longer deliver their free newspaper to our residence, the Iowa City Press-Citizen continued to do so.

And again, the paper was covered with snow and was left unnoticed until it was time to snowblow the driveway.

It was discovered today, with predictable results:

Who is liable for this?

Sadly, this isn’t the first time this has happened. I would, however, like it to be the last. I hope that this time when they tell me that they will no longer deliver the paper, they mean it.

The Best Thing Ever

Our local car wash installed one of these things recently. I’m pretty sure it’s the best thing ever.

How I Started My Vacation

Upon arriving in Florida I learned two very important things: My brother had a pool in his back yard, and he knew how to pick a good single malt.

First vacation in years, first tipple in months. Needless to say, I spent a good amount of time floating Gatsby-style in the pool, rocks glass balanced on my chest, watching the palm trees spin lazy circles across the sky. Ahhhh…vacation.

Mediacom, This Is Why You Suck

Mediacom, this is why you suck. In fact, it might be at the very heart of why you are evil. First you introduce this non-standard “Website Redirect Service” that redirects me to your stupid page, but then you don’t let me opt out of it.

In the past, at least you respected my selection and let me opt out…but only for a while. Eventually, you always come back.

You are a blight on internet standards and really, you need to stop doing this to your customers.

Default Everything

Just a note about the site. I’ve just migrated everything from Drupal, and I gotta say, WordPress is the way to go (for me). I’ll accept that Drupal may be the technically superior solution, and can be beaten to better serve very high bandwidth sites…but seriously, upgrading was hell and most everything else was a headache for me. This is so much nicer….

But, given that this is one of a few sites I’ve just migrated, I’ll have to work through them all one at a time and the site identity here will use the default 2013 theme for awhile.
